Drinking Fountain PrototypeDrinking water is one of the, if not the most essential needs to human existence. Yet today, it is difficult if not impossible to have a sip of water outside the home without toting a plastic container that has been shipped cross country, if not across the globe. This senseless transportation of weighty water spews carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, poisoning the earth and lightening our wallets.

Water fountains themselves have a long history of being embellished and designed to inspire the user.  Whether it be a testimony of a politicians power, a place of dedication, a place for reflection and meditation, or simply a place to hydrate and cool off, water fountains are cultural representations of societies.  San Francisco must implement an alternative to bottled water that would not only be a public service, but an inspiration to its citizens to live a more environmentally friendly life.
